Site Planning
Website planning will set your direction and guide your
content. Understanding your market's motivations
demographics, as well as buying habits, attitudes, interests
and lifestyles will create a site that works for your customers
and create a productive experience.
Who are the
Customers?
Who exactly is buying products in the niche?
Why do they buy it? What needs/wants does it satisfy for them?
What are the general demographics and psychographics of these
groups of customers?
I do this by immersion into the customer
experience going through the buying cycle myself. Generally
this includes browsing the broad niche search to learn the
basics, followed by the review phase where I search for
the products, consider the reviews and the
comparisons of the products in the niche, and finally into the
buying phase search for a quality experience. This will give me
exposure to the who's, what's, and why's. It also tells me what
kind of competition I am facing and their strengths and
weaknesses.
In Depth Keyword
Development
Using various tools and my new understanding of
the customer, I develop and segment keywords to configure with
the different kinds of customers I have identified ie: what
keywords are they using to arrive at an answer to their
problems?
USP Identification and
Development
Can I develop a unique business model or
angle for the niche that will raise me above my competition? I
must stand out as competent and helpful to my customers. It is
essential.
Site Content
Planning
Now, with some understanding of my direction,
site goal setting will guide what I must do and
organize how I will go about it. Some standard or required
pages, what prospective customers need in terms of their wants
and needs, and the most practical way to engage my
niche.
